Senior Finnian Scott joined The Cardinal Times this year because he knew other reporters on the staff. As a reporter, he has used critical thinking skills that he developed as an international student.
“I lived in Vienna for six years, giving me a different perspective on international life. Vienna is a very different place from Portland,” said Scott. “I lived there for a long time, and then I came back and [now] it’s like I have perspectives on two worlds.”
Living in Vienna was a very constructive experience for Scott; he is fluent in German and has engaged with a new culture. After returning to the United States, Scott built a lot of connections through activities and his investment in classes. One of his close friends, junior Charlie McCalla, has shared Scott’s qualities.
“I have known Finn since last school year. He is someone caring, hardworking and fun. I saw him change a lot in maturity; he grew up and he is more mature,” McCalla said.
Through the newspaper class, Scott had fun learning the skills of reporting.
Throughout his senior year, Scott wrote many articles such as “Lincoln students work at Providence Park,” “Girls Basketball: How is it working this season” and “Lincoln twins describe their lives.”
One of his favorite parts about being a member of The Cardinal Times. was collaborating with his classmates.
“I like to sit with my friends and share our writing,” said Scott. “The best thing about this class was to write articles with friends.”
