What is your name and pronouns?
“My name is Anne Jin. My pronouns are she/her.”
What is your position at Lincoln?
“I am a learning center teacher. Essentially, there are students who have [a] specially designed program and I help them. There’s two classes, but they’re the same; there’s academic support and study skills. It’s a place where they can work on class assignments for their other classes and also get support in other ways.”
What made you want to come to Lincoln?
“I have a lot of experience in elementary school, but I guess I wanted to work with an older group of students, and Lincoln has a very good reputation. I think it’s a good place to work, too. I have studied a lot of languages, and this is one of the only schools with lots of languages.”
Where were you before this?
“Vestal Elementary School.”
Why did you decide to teach?
“I feel like so many students have different types of needs and learn in different ways, and I feel like there was a need for more teachers who can help students succeed by addressing their individual needs. Instead of a one size fits all, I’m on the other side of that where I’m helping students access the curriculum.”
Do you have any hobbies?
“I really like gardening. I have a front yard that gets a lot of sun, so I have a vegetable and herb garden, and also sunflowers that are mostly for the birds and the squirrels to eat. I also enjoy skiing, paddleboarding, camping and hiking. I also like canning and I make my own strawberry jam, peach jam and apple sauce.”
What are you looking forward to this year?
“I’m looking forward to football games and in particular if the marching band participates [at] half time. That’s something I used to do. I played the flute in marching band at school. Because I follow the same group [of students] throughout the years, I’m looking forward to seeing them grow and succeed.”
