Senior Lola Kovel will attend University of Colorado Boulder in the fall where she plans to study education. Kovel became a reporter for The Cardinal Times this year. Over the year, Kovel written many fun articles, such as one on guyliner, as well as some serious articles, like an opinion piece about the ASL program at Lincoln.
Her goal is to make the newspaper more fun and interactive.
“I’ve written some serious articles, but I like the fun articles that really engage people and catch their eye without them knowing,” said Kovel.
One of Kovel’s most recent articles was headlined: ‘Temporary hair color: the best way to spruce up your summer look!’ The article explores different hair dye brands and their quality from Kovel’s personal experience.
Kovel has also written articles about Target and Ikea, and how they influence and feed her shopping addiction; part of her byline is “girl with a shopping addiction.”
In a recent issue, Kovel added a crossword game on the back of the newspaper, to make it more interactive and fun.
Kovel has lots of other responsibilities in addition to her work as a reporter. She is the president of the Romance Book Club and Period Club, as well as an ambassador for Lincoln’s future educators CTE program, led by teacher Blair Hennessy.
“I’m going to be one of the first people to actually graduate taking three years of the [Future Educators ] class as a CTE program completer. I’m very proud of that. It’s like my little baby, and I’m really sad to be leaving it,” Kovel said.
