Arctic Fox hair dye is available in retailers like Sally’s. It costs $2.31 per ounce and offers a large selection of colors.

With summer just around the corner, many teens may start feeling the urge to change their hair color- maybe this looks like pops of colored streaks or a nice ombre. Coming from someone who frequently dyes her hair, here are the best temporary hair dye brands to brighten up your look this summer.

#1- ARCTIC FOX Vegan and Cruelty-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Color Dye
$2.31 per ounce

One of my favorite temporary hair dyes on the market, Arctic Fox offers the best bang for your buck and the largest range of colors. With 28 colors available for purchase, both online and in beauty stores like Sally’s, any of your wildest hair dreams can come true.
You can buy two different sizes of this dye, but I recommend buying the larger 18-ounce bottle for a more affordable price per ounce. The longevity of the hair color is also right in the sweet spot, lasting for long enough that you don’t have to worry about constantly re-dying your hair but also being temporary. Overall, Arctic Fox is my go-to brand and will continue to be in the future.

#2- Colourpop Hair Tint
$2.80 per ounce

Colourpop’s hair tint is a secret gem, only available on their website. They have six different colors for you to choose from, which may not be the largest range, but the brand makes up for it by the quality of the ingredients in the dye. Colourpop’s dye also has a couple of ingredients that stand out compared to other dyes; though the base of the formula is similar to other brands, Colourpop includes things like Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, and Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, which helps encourage hair growth and strength.

#3- L’Oreal Paris Colorista Semi-Permanent Hair Color
$3.00 per ounce

This was my first temporary hair dye (unless you count the Kool-Aid I used in 4th grade) and the dye I used for the first year of my hair experiments. It is a great dye for those dipping their toes in the water since it is available almost anywhere, including Fred Meyer and Target. With 14 different colors to choose from, you really can try anything with this dye. Though it does not last as long as Arctic Fox, the dye still holds its own and will not immediately fade.

#4- BRITE Instant Semi-Permanent Moisturizing Hair Color
$2.66 per ounce

I only tried this dye once and was not a fan. I saw it on a shelf at Target and wanted to give it a try, but was disappointed with how quickly it would fade. Most temporary dyes will have some color runoff the first couple of times you wash them, but I found that this dye had an intense loss of color each time I washed it. The dye only stayed bright for about a week before fading. Not only that, but the dye stained the pillows and towels each time my hair got wet. Overall, this dye is not worth your money.
