Our publication staff has had a successful 2021-2022 year.

The Cardinal Times staff and contributing reporters won a total of nine Best of Student Newspapers Online (SNO) awards. Best of SNO awards were won for Abby Yium’s articles on Lincoln’s new Teen Parent Childcare Center and masking in theater, Isabella Hartman’s articles on Portland Street Response and the Portland Thorns’ controversial draft pick, Issac Coltman’s article on the shipping crisis prior to the holiday season, Hadley Steele’s article on Outside In, Devyn McMillen’s profile on rower Zoe Scogna, The rest of my journey: A miraculous path by Joel Reyes and To see color by Danica Leung.

The Cardinal Times also garnered 22 awards through the Student Media Olympics. In addition to winning three best in category awards, the Cardinal Times won three superior, six excellent and ten honorable mentions. 

Our website now has three SNO Distinguished Sites Badges: Excellence in Writing, Multimedia Excellence and Audience Engagement. 

Students in our mass communications program have exciting summers in journalism ahead. Incoming podcast editor Max Decker will be participating in the High School Journalism Institute co-hosted by Oregon State University and the Oregonian, Ekansh Gupta will be interning at the Willamette Week, Robin Barnes interning at Visual Aid and Ava Rispler will be representing Oregon at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference.
