Review: A Simple Favor

Review: A Simple Favor

The book “A Simple Favor,” by Darcey Bell has such a different plot from anything I’ve ever read. I did not know who the antagonist was until the very end of the book. I feel as though most books I’ve read or movies I’ve seen, I know the exact plot at the beginning of the book or movie. The way this book was written was so complex and complicated, but for some reason I could follow along. I feel like a lot of books can’t do this because they make it so hard to follow along it doesn’t make any sense, or the plot so predictable that it’s not interesting, but this author does a good balance of an interesting and easy to follow plot and I think that is such a hard thing to do. I Love the book, I’ve read it 6 times and the movie stars my two favorite actresses, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

I love the way the book switches from Stephanie’s life of her taking care of her son and what she does for work to her blog. That first is her making food and then her narrating the story and giving clues about the story.

The author creates characters who show one Idea where the antagonist is Stephanie and she is evil but then is really the protagonist, Then it shows Emily as the villain and then shows her as good but then shows her at the end as evil it’s such a layered complex story. In the book Stephanie is a widowed mother and Emily is the CEO of a company I loved the why the author wrote empowered woman. It’s a very forward way of writing and on top of that, Paul Feig bringing in two incredibly talented actresses into it was so On point and made the book and movie better . (Both of these actresses have been in magazines like Vogue and Forbes.) I also appreciated how the book and movie brought mental illness into the plot. For example when Emily kills her sister and talks about it but then is in denial that she did it and says it was suicide. The plot showed a different side of mental illness that hasn’t really been talked about and I think It Opened a lot of people’s eyes. This book also brought so much scanda INto itself such as Stephanie taking Emily’s husband. I Said before the way this plot is written is so much different from anything I’ve ever read. It was so complex and interesting, one of the best things I’ve ever read. I think it is such a well thought out amazing book and movie simply because of the plot and should be read and seen.
