Speech and debate team members relax after placing second at the Oregon City tournament held March 7.

The speech and debate team took second out of 31 teams at the Oregon City High School Tournament March 7. A total of 42 Lincoln speakers participated, the largest number of the year. Besides district and state, this is the last tournament that the whole team will attend.

The team “turned [out]  impressive results,” said coach Jennifer Owen.  Competitors are proud of their results, too. “I think the tournament went very well,” Kelsey Dunn, sophomore, said. “It made me feel like we have a better shot at doing well at districts.”

Top performers were:

Juhui Liu: 1st place (tournament champion), Senior Literary Interpretation for Beginning & Intermediate English-Language Learners

Noah Hoffman, 1st Place (tournament champion), Open After Dinner Speaking, earning one leg of alternate qualification to the state championships

Alex Serrurier & Will Leo, finalists (no final round held), Open Parli Debate, earning one leg of alternate qualification to the state championships

Daniel Lawrence, 3rd Place, Open After Dinner Speaking, earning one leg of alternate qualification to the state championships.
