LPE Starts Season With a Bang

After moving up in classes for the third time in four years, Lincoln Percussion Ensemble won its first competition Feb. 22.

According to senior Gabe Schafman, the show tells the story of The Three Faces of Eve, a movie based on a true story about a woman who suffered from Multiple Personality Disorder.  The ensemble scored 80.6 out of 100, only 1.5 points higher than Southridge High School. “A lot of other shows don’t have a defined story,” Schafman said. “Ours has a storyline that progresses along the show, as opposed to a show that just has a theme.”

The ensemble is competing in “open class,” the highest level for local competition. With 13 returning members out of a total of 28, the program expects to do well this year. “This victory is a fantastic landmark in the legacy of LPE,” senior Andrew Yates said. “We have improved leaps and bounds each year from our humble beginnings four years ago as a small, very young group.”

The group’s next competition will be March 1 at Skyview High School. “I am looking forward to a great rest of the season as we work hard to bring our show to full potential,” Yates said. “I’m so glad I could finish off my high school career with this amazing group of people.”
