Fall sports are in full swing and the girls’ soccer team has gained three new assets: junior Chloe Taylor and sophomores Juliet Twemlow and Juliette Azizi. One is local and two are new to Oregon. All are excited to be in the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) play.
These new Cards are hungry for a playoff appearance.
Mid-regular season, girls’ soccer is strong with two wins and zero losses. They are ranked #6 in the state right now. They will face Grant High School (ranked #3) on Tuesday, Oct 15 at 7 p.m.
Azizi, who plays striker and winger, says it’ll be a fun and challenging game for her new team.
“We play Grant on Tuesday and I think that this is a match-up we have been looking forward to,” said Azizi.
Azizi moved here from Charleton, South Carolina, and has enjoyed playing with new teammates and making new friends along the way.
“I’ve enjoyed the environment and all of my teammates and I also like the way they play and how fun it is,” said Azizi.
Azizi is also adjusting to a new style of coaching.
“It’s different adjusting to the coach’s style of play but I just have to keep an open mind and it’s better just having my teammates by my side,” said Azizi.
Twemlow is a forward from British Columbia, Canada. She’s also enjoyed the welcoming environment at Lincoln.
“At first it was challenging not knowing anybody, but now I feel like the team has a really good environment so it’s made the transition a lot easier,” said Twemlow.
Twemlow is also embracing challenges off the field such as academics.
“The classes here and the schooling system are much harder and more intense,” said Twemlow.
Taylor who plays left back, came to Lincoln from Oregon City High School. She said it’s been a positive change.
“It’s a lot different, I feel like I have more support from teachers, and it’s just a whole new environment,” said Taylor.
Taylor and Azizi feel good about how the semester is playing out on the field.
“I think we are very connected and there are no cliques on the team so I think that affects how we play with each other,” said Taylor.
“I think we are very good on our feet, we have some very technical skills and are good at putting the ball in the back of the net,” said Azizi.
