Each year Popcycles, a variety show consisting of artistic performances related to music, band, choir and theater, kicks off the year.
Popcycles supports Lincoln’s performing arts programs by raising funds and offering Lincoln students a way to get involved in the performing arts as performers or audience members.
The theater, band and choir classes organize large performances for Popcycles. Sophomore Lilah Shields, a member of both band and theater, has enjoyed the experience.
“Every year they have performances, and every year it’s a lot of fun. I’m really excited and I really enjoy performing, so I’m glad I get to be a part of this community,” says Shields.
Popcycles opens auditions for all Lincoln students to tryout. The show offers students an opportunity to work together and display their talents.
Among this year’s performers is an exciting new dance group, the Pink Valley Dance Team, performing a dance cover of Le Sserafim’s “Fearless”.
The Pink Valley Dance Team was created by sophomores Allison Hu, Anika Rigby, Lucy Whetstone, Nia Klein and senior Alinkar Thant, specializing in K-pop dance and performance. Together they learn, organize and perform dances at local events, and also lead a club at school to work with more students.
The team’s journey began a year ago when they were just friends with a common passion for K-pop music and dance.
“We’ve all been K-pop fans for a while, and all of us really enjoy dancing, so we thought we might as well put two and two together and create a group for learning K-pop dances,” says Whetstone.
Their relationship and passion have created a great team dynamic.
“I really like working with the people in our club because everyone has their own ideas and everyone is working together instead of one person,” says Whetstone.
The Pink Valley Dance Team is excited about their debut at Popcycles and can’t wait to expand and perform at even bigger events in the future.
