What is your name and pronouns?
“Meredith Wilson, she/her.”
What is your position at Lincoln?
“I am a school counselor.”
What made you want to come to Lincoln?
“I taught high school for five years and [then] got my degree in school counseling and wanted to be a school counselor. I always wanted to return to high school because I like high school kids and when the unassignments [job cuts] happened at my old school and this job came up at Lincoln, it was the perfect opportunity for me.”
Where were you before this?
“I was at Rosa Park Elementary and Astro [kindergarten through 8th grade].”
Why did you decide to go into the counseling field?
“I always liked talking to kids about their feelings and what they were experiencing and how to help them navigate through life and so I liked teaching but I had to do a lot of grading and teaching kids how to write papers and assigning books. It could feel very silly especially when someone is going through a hard time. I realized that I wanted to help kids with those hard times rather than making them write a five-paragraph essay.”
What are some of your hobbies?
“I like to read, sew and cook. I also really like to watch TV. My favorite show right now is one that I am rewatching called ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ and I also really like ‘The Office’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’.
What are you looking forward to this school year?
“I am looking to get to know everyone in my group, all 300 of them. This is the most kids I’ve ever had and it would be really fun to meet everybody.”
