What is your name and pronouns?
Curtis Williams, he/him
What is your position at Lincoln?
“In middle school, I taught sixth, seventh and eighth-grade health, and now I’m teaching health here.”
What made you want to come to Lincoln?
“I got reassigned with the strike. It ended up being a better situation anyway. [I came back to Portland] to catch up with family. I didn’t plan on staying this long, but then I have kids so I’m just here now, back for good.”
Where were you before this?
“[I’m in my] third year [of teaching]. [The past] two years, I did middle school at Harriet Tubman Middle School, then [this is my] first year here. I also coach high school basketball at Benson.”
Why did you decide to go into the education field?
“I’ve been coaching basketball the last six years so it kinda goes hand in hand. A lot of the schools need more male teachers. At LSU I studied political science, communications studies, sociology and then recently, last May, I got my masters in teaching from Warner Pacific.”
What do you do in your free time?
“Mainly coach, that’s what I do really. I coach probably nine months [out of] the year. I’ve played basketball my whole life, from age six to 19 or 20. It’s my passion. I’m used to playing poker a lot. I have two kids, a four-year-old and a seven-year-old so that takes a lot of my time.”
What are you looking forward to this school year?
“Teaching high school. The kids are older and more mature as opposed to middle school. Middle school can be a little chaotic sometimes. High school is almost like teaching adults.”
What are your goals for this year?
“Getting to know the Lincoln community and the kids and helping them get through life and their goals.”
