Emilia Cafiso is a graduating senior on The Cardinal Times, but she participates in many more activities at Lincoln. Cafiso is an Executive Cardinal Ambassador on the Associated Student Body (ASB) board and a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. She is also a stage manager for the Drama Department and recently co-stage managed the spring musical Into the Woods.
Cafiso said it is sometimes a struggle to keep up with all of her extracurriculars.
“There have been certain points where, for example [during] last issue, [our] rough draft and final draft due dates were lined up with a couple late night rehearsals,” said Cafiso, “It was like, ‘I’m going to do this rehearsal, and then when I get home, I’m immediately just gonna finish up this 400-word article.’”
Cafiso’s co-stage manager Carmen Lahti has known Cafiso for years and says that they have gotten to know one another and become good friends within that time.
“I appreciate her love and ability of organization. As stage managers we have a lot on our plates and a lot of things to do. She, compared to myself, is very organized and has everything where it needs to be, and I like that,” says Lahti. “I would describe Emilia as very dedicated and very passionate, [as well as] a very strong and professional woman.”
Cafiso has been working on The Cardinal Times for a year and has a piece that she is very excited about publishing.
“It’s a satirical profile of Butter Lincoln, the statue that’s in the second floor [common] space. I’ll just be sitting down with him, getting to know him, seeing what he is up to,” said Cafiso. “Also, he’s been a part of Lincoln culture since, I believe, 1912. He’s got a lot of insight into what it means to be a Cardinal.”
Cafiso will be attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in Midtown Manhattan as a fashion business management major with a focus on fashion journalism. She will study abroad in Milan, Italy her sophomore year, and is hoping to spend her junior year in Florence, Italy. Cafiso is excited about what the future holds
“We’ll see what happens!” said Cafiso.
