Senior Bella Lehmann started her career as a reporter on The Cardinal Times this year. Her prior journalism experience includes being on the staff of Beyond the Flock, Lincoln’s now-discontinued magazine, for two years, and taking Intro to Mass Communications her freshman year.
“I joined [the] magazine because I liked the elements of reporting on stories while also doing a lot of design,” said Lehmann. “It’s just interesting to be able to talk to a lot of people at the school who are doing different things.”
This year on The Cardinal Times, Lehmann has covered a wide variety of topics, from fall drinks to the drug addiction crisis. She received the Best of School Newspapers Online (SNO) award, an award given to the best student journalists from members of the SNO network, for her articles “Measure 110 and the drug addiction crisis” and “Lincoln students shine with entrepreneurial spirit.”
Her favorite article that she worked on this year was her review of BIPOC owned cafes in Portland, which she worked on with reporter Erika Leung.
This fall, Lehmann will be studying biology at the University of Georgia Honors College. She believes she will use the skills that she has learned during her time in Mass Communications in her life after high school.
“I think [the ability to] take all of this information and condense it down into just the key ideas … will be really helpful [in college],” said Lehmann.
