Isabel Bruce joined the Intro to Mass Communications class in her sophomore year and has been a part of The Cardinal Times staff for her junior and senior years.
During her time on the paper, Bruce has made many memories that improved her relationships with other staff members.
“Fall Media Day is a huge part of the year, and it’s a bonding experience. We all go out to Eugene for the day, so that [was] fun both years that [I] got to experience that,” said Bruce. “[Another memory is] at the end of the year … we play wiffle ball with the whole staff.”
Senior Angelo Mercado, a friend of Bruce, describes what it is like to be around her.
“She’s really goofy and … if you’re looking for something exciting to do, she’s always the right person to go to,” said Mercado. “I would also say she’s a pretty dynamic person, so if you wanted a chill day [to] just be lazy and [lay] in bed and watch movies all day you could, but if you wanted to go for a hike or a fun adventure, then I think she’d definitely take you on one.”
Bruce has utilized her dynamic and open personality to become a leader. This year Bruce was co-captain of the girls’ wrestling team, and she ran the social media for Lincoln’s Period Club. Her one regret is that she wasn’t part of clubs sooner. Bruce advises underclassmen to join clubs early on.
“The really cool thing about Lincoln is that there are so many clubs and classes and electives and sports and groups that you can join, and getting involved will give you so many opportunities and let you meet so many amazing people that you never would have met otherwise,” said Bruce. “My advice to underclassmen is to get involved and try a bunch of stuff because it will truly open up your world to amazing things.”
