Losing seniors is often a bad sign for a high school team because they are often the most experienced players. The boys varsity basketball team graduated nine seniors last year, more than half of their team.
Coach Heather Roberts said while the team is different this year, she is optimistic.
“Expect the same energy and competitiveness that we had last year,” said Roberts.
Roberts said there are many bright spots on this year’s team. One of those players is senior Even Heisler who is 6 ’10 and going into his third year on varsity.
“We expect him to be a huge focus. Last year we had four very tall players. This year it’s just him; we’re expecting him to score twenty a night and get ten rebounds and to really lead the team,” said Roberts.
It is senior Issac Margolis’ third year on the team. Margolis has been the backup point guard for the last two years.
“I am a fun energetic guy that brings positivity to the classroom and my peers and just loves being social with everyone. And that can help me on the court to talk and communicate with everyone,” said Margolis.
Margolis is a very good player on the court; he has been compared by his teammates and himself to the likes of Steph Curry for his shooting and Chris Paul for his passing by himself.
Roberts said because of there being so many open spots, tryouts will be as busy as ever, but students should know what the team will expect out of you.
“There are three things we expect out of our players,” said Roberts. “One is to work, two is to be coachable and three is to be committed to what we are doing.”
