“The Sound of Music” is an iconic and heartwarming movie that is also a musical. It is surprisingly based on a true story about the Von Trapp family. The  music is by Richard Rodgers. Although this movie came out in 1965, it’s still as good as the day it came out. This movie is good because of all the sweet scenes and good singing that happen throughout the movie. It also has a very interesting turn of events.

The movie is mainly about a young woman named Maria who is a nun but takes a job as a governess and ends up taking care of seven children. Although it’s a little tough at first she ends up falling in love with not only the children but also their father.

A real strength of the movie is, Julie Andrews, who plays Maria. Her performance adds a certain charm to her role. Her singing is also phenomenal. My personal favorites are the songs “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” and “the Sound of Music.”

Although “The Sound of Music” was made a long time ago, musicals haven’t changed that much since then, however in today’s musicals the plots are more up to date.

For example in the movie, “High School Musical,” which was made in 2006, the plot is  more modern; it is something that would happen in the present. The main actors in this movie are Zac Efron who plays Troy Bolton, and Vanessa Anne Hudgens who plays Gabriella Montez. All the music is composed by David Lawrence. This movie is about a girl and boy in high school who meet and soon after become friends then love interests. They meet on vacation, then surprisingly, Gabriela moves to the same school as Troy.

These two movies are both entertaining and have equally good music. They are also movies that are very well known. Although they are both good movies I feel as if “High School Musical” is for younger kids because of the plot and the type of things that happen are things that happen in high school, and things that happen in “The Sound of Music” are more advanced and things that happen in real life, like adult relationships and war. I personally would rather watch “The Sound of Music” because of the more meaningful plot.

In conclusion, I would recommend “The Sound of Music” more mainly because it’s more entertaining in general.
