Senior Sage Colley joined the paper this year and has enjoyed her role as a designer and reporter. On The Cardinal Times, she wrote engaging articles that covered topics ranging from the school musical, Hadestown, to free breakfast served on bridges, which accompanied bikers and runners within their early morning commutes.
Colley draws inspiration from exploring Portland.
“I’m inspired by being in Portland and [being] around different things,” said Colley. “[I enjoy] writing about restaurants and new places around Portland because I like to walk around a lot.”
Colley said that being a reporter for The Cardinal Times has made her feel more connected to the Lincoln community.
“I like to interview different people in the school that I maybe wouldn’t talk to otherwise, and I’ve liked writing articles with other people in the class too; that was fun,” said Colley.
Her friend junior Maja Diettrich-Kennett feels that Colley is full of life and always makes her feel comfortable.
“I feel like I can always be honest with her because we’ve spent so much time together,” said Diettrich-Kennett. “She’s like a sister to me.”
The professional style of collaboration on The Cardinal Times inspired Colley to continue pursuing journalism.
“I’m considering joining the paper in college because I really like being on [The Cardinal Times] because it feels like you’re on a real newspaper. Everyone is really professional,” said Colley.
Beyond the professionalism, Colley loved the social, supportive community on Lincoln’s paper and hopes to find a similar community at Tufts University where she will be majoring in Architectural Studies this coming fall.
“I would say that I have found a really good community in The Cardinal Times because we all talk a lot,” said Colley. “I always look forward to going to the class, mostly because of the people.”
