The lunch bell rings, the cafeteria is full of different smells, and the sounds of chairs clanking as everyone tries to find a seat. This might be especially hard to do if you haven’t made many friends yet to sit with at lunch.
This year, there are so many new upperclassmen as well as a large freshman class of over 400 students.
By now, students have met new people and have more connections with their peers. Others are still trying to find friends to eat and hang out with at lunch. With a lot more students at the school, it makes it harder for students to find their friends.
Senior Wilson Campbell and Logan Ferrura want to bring people together by creating a club called Gather and Grub.
“It’s kind of a club where a lot of new students, or just, transfer and exchange students, can kind of have, a place, a space, or a room to eat lunch and, connect with new people, and kind of get linked in with everybody that is also in that club and people outside of that club as well,” said Campbell. “So it’s just for people to find their own community.”
Campbell said that over 90 students joined the club, with over 72% being freshmen.
“I hope that this club doesn’t last throughout the whole year, because if it does, that means that, you know, we didn’t do our job well enough with people getting people integrated and stuff like that,” said Campbell.
