Famed rapper Drake released an unannounced mixtape on Feb. 12, consisting of 17 tracks that excel past his work.

Though there was no media hype working up to the sudden release, the new mixtape has quickly gained reputation and is one of the best pieces heard yet in 2015. After Drake’s 2013 successful album, “Nothing Was the Same,” fans saw the moody side of his music, a sentiment carried over to his latest songs.

“If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” is Drake at his purest; featuring few other rappers and containing no radio hits, the album is compacted with sullen beats and meaningful rhymes that flow flawlessly throughout the hour long album. Every song is worth it’s allotted time, prompting no need to skip any tracks when listening.

As a whole, the release shows advancement in lyrical meaning and overall sound production – in the track “No Tellin,’” Drake raps about the difference between himself four years ago and now.

While the rapper is known widely for chart topping hits such as “The Motto” and “Best I Ever Had,” Drake should instead be held in high regard because of any given song from “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.”

Key Tracks: “Know Yourself,” “No Tellin’,” “Madonna,” “You & The 6,” “Jungle”
