Boys drown Madison in 3-point shower

Senior guard Trent Callan goes up for one of his seven 3-pointers in the game with Madison Jan. 12. Callan ended the game with 26 points.

It was a great night for the boys’ basketball teams Jan. 13. For Madison it was just the opposite.

The freshmen beat the Senators 58-44 to start off a Cardinal sweep. Paced by freshman Aiden Anastas’s game-high 18 points, the JVs beat Madison 58-50. Freshman Bryce Sloan added another 10 points, and sophomore Max Goldman had 9 points.

As for varsity, it was a more commanding win. The team thumped Madison 80-28, with 10 out of the 11 Lincoln players scoring and a total of 16 3-pointers made. Senior Trent Callan had a game-high 26 points, only 2 points away from tying his season high of 28. Callan hit a total of seven 3-pointers, five of them coming in the first half. “After I hit a couple, I was like, ‘I’ll just keep shooting now,’” Callan said. Senior Bailey Hazard had 11 points, with three 3-pointers, and sophomore Jonah Pemberton chipped in 9 points.

The Cards (4-0) stay undefeated in the PIL and move to an overall record of 8-4. Lincoln is also on a five-game winning streak. One of those wins came from beating eighth-ranked Jefferson 65-64 on a 3-point play by Pemberton with 5.4 seconds remaining on the clock and Lincoln behind by 2 points. Pemberton had a game-high 17 points.

Lincoln will face Wilson (7-4) at home on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m.
