Students get help with college plans

Preparation for college will highlight the first two weeks of November with a series of events aimed at juniors and seniors.

College Application Week begins Nov. 1 and runs through the week with volunteers giving students advice about their college applications and supplying answers to any questions students might have.

Juniors will be taking an ACT practice test in the cafeteria on Nov. 8 at 8 a.m. The Parent Teacher Student Organization is sponsoring the test, which costs $20. Later in the year, the full-length practice results will be emailed back to the students. The PTSO encourages the juniors to take the test in order to prepare them for senior year when they take the real test.

College visitations are also underway through the month.  Representatives from  Bates College, DePauw University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Westminster College and Champlain College will come to Lincolon Nov 3 to meet with potential students.

“I think this is a super beneficial opportunity,” parent Debra Talbert said. “It initiates the first conversations students have with colleges and exposes choices to them.”
