As summer draws nearer and the temperature rises, students look for ways to cool down. These ice cream shops are prime for a sweet-cooling treat.

1. Ruby Jewel Scoops- For an array of unique flavors, Ruby Jewel hits the spot. It’s famous Fluffer Nutter ice cream is sure to please.  They also offer several vegan options, such as their Orange Vanilla Ice.

2. Salt and Straw Ice Cream- Another shop that offers non-traditional flavors. The most adventurous will try their Strawberry Balsamic with Cracked Pepper. For some after school relaxation, try their Honey Lavender. For a safe bet stick with their Chocolate with Gooey Brownies.

3. Cool Moon Ice Cream- For a cooling scoop of ice cream on a hot spring day, check out this Pearl District locale. Offering a wide variety of flavors, they have over 12 chocolate ice creams alone. Their unique Thai Iced Tea flavor is a refreshing treat for any type of weather. With Jamison Square right across the street, buying a scoop and lounging in the sun is easy to do.

4. Roses Ice Cream Shop- Take a trip back to the 1950’s by visiting the retro Roses Ice Cream Shop. This shop makes extremely good snickerdoodle cookies that can be topped with any of their flavors of ice cream. For an even more irresistible treat try their fresh banana milkshakes.

5. Little River Cafe- Though this charming bistro dishes out much more than just ice cream, the Little River Cafe serves more than 20 flavors of delicious Umpqua ice cream. Along with scoops, the ice cream menu includes milkshakes, hot fudge sundaes, and banana splits. During the summer months, they also offer Yocream frozen yogurt. Their water front location makes them a prime place for a quick stop on a bike ride along the esplanade.
