Varsity Boys Drop Sheldon

With the score tied at 64-64 and 1.4 seconds left on the clock, senior Matt Peeler calmly stepped to the foul line, watched the first of his two shots roll off the rim and then pumped in the winning basket to edge the Sheldon Irish 65-64 at home. Trent Callan, junior, tied the game with 10.4 seconds remaining, and Peeler stole the ball, drove to the basket, and was fouled.

Leading the scoring for the Cardinals was senior Tim Graham with 17 points. Callan  had 10 points, and freshman Nolan Bertain had 9.  The Cardinals have a 3-3 league record and 12-8 overall for a 12th-place ranking among 6A teams. Next up is a non-league game at Madison on Feb. 19.

Eve Goldman fired up 11 points in the early game with Sheldon, but the Cardinals fell to the Irish 63-49. Kathleen Cook and Hailey McPhee had 10 points each. The girls are second in the Special District 2 league with a 4-2 record and 9-11 overall. Their next game is Feb 20 at Thurston.
