Amanda Schubert has led a busy four years at high school, whether that was volunteering, pursuing her academics or becoming a friendly face in the newsroom.
Outside of school, Schubert is an active member of her community, volunteering at Youthline—a support line for teenagers. She has a bustling schedule; she works at a restaurant all while balancing a full IB schedule. In her free time, Schubert enjoys spending time with her loved ones and staying active—her favorite way is running. She completed her third half-marathon this spring.
Schubert was first inspired to join the newspaper when her older brother Donovan, class of 2025, expressed his interest in the introductory Mass Communications class. She first joined freshman year, then climbed from a designer role to head designer, and finally, editor-in-chief (EIC) her senior year.
“My favorite part of being an EIC is being able to work with everyone in the class,” said Schubert. “When I was a designer, I mostly worked with the EIC and other editors, but it has been nice to talk to everyone and get to know everyone.”
Senior Scarlett Seidel says Amanda is the best person for advice.
“She is funny and compassionate. She is the best person to be around,” said Seidel.
Schubert and Seidel initially became friends when they shared multiple IB classes and bonded over their shared interests.
Over the course of high school, Schubert said her favorite moments were on trips she took with The Cardinal Times, including trips to national journalism conventions in San Francisco and New York.
After graduation, Schubert is planning on studying psychology at Scripps College in Claremont, California.
As Schubert makes her transition to college, she not only leaves behind strong work, but also a lasting mark on the newsroom through her leadership, kindness and creativity.
