From the wrestling mat to charity work, junior Ryan Muir is dedicated to many pursuits. Muir is a member of Lincoln’s wrestling team, is the foundation chair in an organization called Jack and Jill and is the treasurer of the Black Student Union (BSU) club at Lincoln.
Inspired by her sister, Muir joined wrestling in her freshman year and says the sport made her more confident and resilient.
“I joined wrestling because my sister did it while she was in high school. She was the captain of the wrestling team. I saw her leadership and took inspiration from that,” said Muir.
Muir enjoys serving her community in different ways. She volunteers at organizations that support Black youth and underserved communities.
“As foundation chair, when we raise money, I decide where we want our funds to go. So, for example, this year, we are doing the Blanchet House,” said Muir.
The Blanchet House is a nonprofit social services organization in Portland, Oregon. Muir also holds a position in Lincoln’s BSU club.
“I am the treasurer in BSU,” said Muir. “In board meetings, I help decide what events our club wants and how we can raise money from them,” said Muir.
Muir balances her responsibilities with hobbies like reading, playing the guitar and watching movies.
“I like to play my guitar. I’m a rookie, but I like to try and learn new songs. I also love to read, watch movies and go on walks with my dad,” said Muir.
Muir has many aspirations and goals in life.
“I want to be able to travel a lot. I want a varied life. I want to continuously learn new things, I want to learn how to cook, I want to learn how to knit and sew and repurpose things,” said Muir.
Micah Muir, Ryan’s older sister, explained how Ryan has shaped her as a person.
“She has shown me the importance of protecting my peace and knowing how to balance school and work,” said Muir.
Micah emphasized how nurturing her relationship with Ryan Muir is.
“As a sister, I’m grateful to know that I am never alone. It makes me wish that every person would get to experience the joy of having a sister,” said Muir.
