Trader Joe’s is a year-round staple in many homes, from tasty frozen foods to unique desserts and snacks. However, from conversations with friends, I know the TJ’s Fall food line is one of the most popular. I decided to try three fall-themed items that my friends have talked about being the most tasty.
Pumpkin Waffle: $2.99
Rating: 7/10 for waffle, 4/10 for pumpkin taste
At first glance, the pumpkin waffle, purchased for $2.99, looked like any other Eggo’s waffle, but then the pumpkin aroma hit my nose. The waffle itself was airy and slightly crunchy, which I liked; however, it tasted less pumpkin-like than it smelled. It was like
eating any other waffle, with a little hint of cinnamon. If you are looking for a tasty, in-
expensive waffle, it’s a good choice. Overall, it was good, but I’d stick with the pumpkin pancakes, which I’ve had before and liked.
Apple Pie Spread: $3.99
Rating: 9/10
Next, I tried the Apple Pie Spread, which was $3.99. I’d heard good things and was not disappointed. It smelled and tasted like I was eating apple pie filling. It was smooth and had little bites of apple in every spread. I had it on toast, but I expect it would taste even more appetizing on other items, like pancakes or vanilla ice cream. It was quite sweet, so I’d use it sparingly if you’re not into sugary spreads.
Squash Pastry Bites: $5.49
Rating:6.6/10
Last but not least, I tried the Squash Pastry Bites, which were $5.49. These were a dollop of squash and mascarpone cheese on pastry bread. When it first came out of the oven, it smelled sweet with a hint of mushroom. The pastry was light and crunchy, which made it more appealing. The cheese overpowers the squash, which gives the squash a more subtle taste. For the price and the quantity of 12 pastries, it was a good deal. Overall, I was impressed by the appetizer and would have seconds if I wanted more of a cheese taste than a squash one.
