Senior Audrey Hu is passionate about art and journalism. She is currently taking 2-D visual arts (3-4), and is also a reporter for The Cardinal Times. She believes it is important to pursue and focus on personal ambitions in high school, even if they aren’t core classes.
“For a long time, I put away things I was passionate about,” said Hu. “Passions are very valuable, and you don’t want to spend a life without treasuring them.”
Hope Ferns, Lincoln’s visual art teacher, said Hu’s artwork is immediately recognizable.
“I can automatically tell if it’s an Audrey piece,” said Ferns. “Her pieces are full of cultural meaning and organic lines and colors.”
Hu tends to implement natural features into her artwork as well as aspects of her Chinese culture.
“I love incorporating bodies of water and human features like hair and eyes. I take a lot of inspiration from real-world things,” said Hu
She also gets inspiration from herself. Hu says she pushes herself to exceed her limits and puts hard work into whatever she does.
In addition to being an artist, Hu is a member of The Cardinal Times as a reporter. She has also contributed to the yearbook and created broadcast journalism videos. She has excelled in photography and writing.
Hu is planning on studying psychology at Rutgers University-New Brunswick next year. She aims to have a career in therapy, specifically aiding Chinese-Americans or people from other nations.
“I really enjoy researching and learning about people’s minds. And I’ve always been interested in people’s history and stories,” said Hu.
Hu advises underclassmen to work hard but also have fun. She believes balance is crucial in life, especially as a student.
“It’s also important to know that it’s never the end,” said Hu. “After high school, you have so many more beginnings.”
