Senior and sports editor Kao Garcia has enjoyed his first year on the staff with The Cardinal Times, writing reviews and sports articles. He has also enjoyed being a part of the Broadcast Journalism class, where he makes videos with friends.
He has learned valuable life skills through journalism.
“I have gained good communication and timeliness in both classes,” said Garcia.
Garcia joined The Cardinal Times because it sounded fun and he wanted to contribute to the Lincoln community. Outside of writing, Garcia enjoys being outside with his Lincoln soccer teammates.
“My favorite memory at Lincoln is playing soccer for the last two years,” said Garcia.
Before coming to Lincoln in his junior year, Garcia went to Beaverton High School and from freshman year to now, Garcia has gained valuable life skills.
“From freshman year to now, I feel like I have matured a lot as a person,” said Garcia, “I’ve learned a lot of skills throughout my high school years that will help me now that I am graduating.”
Garcia’s close friend and senior, Charlie McCalla, has known him since the summer before his junior year. He says Garcia’s effect on the people around him is nothing but positive.
“I would say that Kao always has a very positive impact on others,” said McCalla. “While he may seem quiet if you don’t really know him, once you get to know him, he’s always very kind.”
Over his high school career Garcia has maintained his student athlete lifestyle and learned important lifelong lessons and friendships that came from it.
“Something that I have learned this year is patience and sometimes the best things come to those who wait,” said Garcia.
