Senior William Schoinas is continuing the Schoinas family legacy of managing digital editors. He joined the paper after having the class recommended to him by his older sister, and past managing digital editor, Eirini Schoinas who graduated from Lincoln in 2023.
Schoinas took Intro to Mass Communications in his freshman year and joined The Cardinal Times as a sports editor during his sophomore year. Schoinas became managing digital editor as a junior and kept the position as a senior.
After three years on The Cardinal Times, he loves one yearly tradition best.
“My favorite memory [from the class] is definitely playing wiffle ball outside on the last days of school. It’s always awesome,” said Schoinas. “Last year, I especially had a bunch of fun playing wiffleball with my friend Max Decker.”
Schoinas’ favorite piece to write was an article on the history of Lincoln’s mascot, the Cardinal.
“My favorite article was the history of the cardinal mascot because I got to do some cool research and reach out to the archivist who gave me some information I didn’t know before,” said Schoinas. “ I got to give the school something that people didn’t know, which felt pretty cool as a journalist.”
Physics teacher William Hartley has taught Schoinas for two years. Hartley enjoys Schoinas’ balanced personality.
“Will is a very cheerful guy. He’s always joking around, but he also has a very serious side, and he’s very concerned about his academic progress,” said Hartley. “So it’s sort of, it’s interestingly dualistic.”
As well as reporting for The Cardinal Times, Schoinas plays water polo. He finds that both activities benefit each other.
“[Water polo] shapes how I write articles because I love writing sports pieces, and it taught me how to be part of a team as well as The Cardinal Times. So I think it’s kind of like a symbiotic relationship,” said Schoinas.
