Freshman Suzy Suzuki enjoys dancing, playing tennis, hanging out with friends and shopping at the mall and thrift stores.

She has been dancing since she was four years old.

“I dance at this place called MVP Dance Elite in Beaverton, [and] I just started tennis [a couple months ago] so we’re gonna see how that goes,” said Suzuki.

Besides the increase in workload at Lincoln compared to West Sylvan, Suzuki’s transition has been generally smooth and positive.

“I really like meeting all the [students],” said Suzuki. “It’s nice to get out of the same environment and the same kids you’ve been with for such a long time, especially because [I’m] in Spanish immersion. We’ve been in our little group the whole time.”

Freshman Violet Blair became friends with Suzuki at the beginning of eighth grade after a hangout with both of their friend groups. They became closer over the rest of the year after being placed in a class together.

Suzuki’s outgoing personality is one of Blair’s favorite things about her.

“My favorite thing about Suzy is she’s not afraid of a lot of things,” said Blair. “She’s introduced me to a lot more people and made me more outgoing [when I] see her being outgoing to others. That’s kind of rubbed off on me.”

Suzuki’s goals for this school year coincide with her extroverted persona.

“I would say [I want] to branch out more friends-wise instead of staying in such a close circle all the time,” said Suzuki. “Also [I want] to keep my grades up.”

Although Suzuki and Blair don’t have classes together this year, they have found ways to maintain their friendship.

“My favorite memories are when we have sleepovers and getting ready for things like football games,” said Blair. “She’s just a fun person to be around [and] has a good energy.”
