Saint Cupcakes, a local cupcake shop in downtown Portland, has quickly become a favorite in our Portland community. Known for its creative flavors and cozy atmosphere, the shop offers a unique experience for dessert lovers. Through this review, we aim to explore the shop’s customer service, ambiance and taste of its products, providing an honest evaluation of what makes it stand out and where it could improve. Whether you’re a cupcake enthusiast or just looking for a sweet treat, this review will help you decide if Saint Cupcake is worth a visit.

Given its prestigious reputation as one of our community’s most popular cupcake stores, we came to Saint Cupcake with great expectations. The cupcakes were beautifully presented with a wide variety of options ranging from toasted coconut cream to raspberry champagne. We ordered a combined six mini cupcakes for the two of us, following the staff’s extremely friendly recommendations to get a range of the popular cupcakes.

We began by trying the most visually appealing: the raspberry champagne cupcake. The base was a vanilla cake topped with a raspberry cream cheese frosting. There was very little raspberry taste.  What held this cupcake together was the succulent moisture of the cake. We rated it  6/10.

The next cupcake we tried was red velvet with cream cheese frosting. The cake was rather bland, leaving us disappointed. We rated it  5.5/10.

The third cupcake we tried was toasted coconut cream with vanilla cake, vanilla cream cheese frosting, and coconut shavings. Despite the cake being dry, the frosting and coconut shavings were delicious and had great coconut flavor. We rated it 7/10.

Our hope for a standout cupcake was restored in the chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting and sprinkles. With a strong chocolatey flavor, the slim frosting cover is garnished with a colorful assortment of sprinkles. It was by far our favorite cupcake. We rated it 8.5/10.

Following the tasty chocolate cupcake, the lemon sparkle cupcake was underwhelming. It was a vanilla cake flavor carried by the lemon curd and sweet Swiss buttercream. We rated it 6.5/10 .

The final cupcake that we tried was the Salty Captain, a chocolate cake topped with salted caramel buttercream, caramel sauce, and sea salt. The frosting was generally flavorful, but the cake was bland. We would have preferred a crunchier sea salt. We rated it 7/10.

Saint Cupcake has wonderful vibes, service, affordable cupcakes where you can buy a small for $2.50 and a large for $4.75, and it is only a ten-minute walk from Lincoln High School; however, its cupcakes definitely left us wanting more. If you do visit Saint Cupcake, we recommend simple cupcakes such as chocolate with vanilla buttercream, which is superior to the more experimental cupcakes.
