Senior Fraser Barnes is passionate about acting. He views theater as an outlet for self expression.

“… I’m really passionate about drama and performing [in] choir as well because it’s such an intimate [way] of expressing myself. I can share emotions and experiences very clearly,” said Barnes. “I feel like music and acting can make people directly feel things by just seeing my facial expressions and seeing the sounds that I’m making, which you don’t really get through screens and books.”

Some of Barnes’s favorite memories in high school include participating in theatrical performances.

“My favorite memory from high school [has been] performing in the different shows that we’ve done. … Every single one has been really good.” said Barnes. “I really enjoyed performing in “Spelling Bee” last year because we had rehearsed and gotten it all ready during the strike in November. We had created this really tight-knit group of people, so when it came to opening night we had put in so much effort and so much time trying to get it ready by that date. We were all really excited and we had so much fun. It’s such a fun show and we had audience interactions and we were really happy and in our zone.”

Theater has allowed Barnes to create a community and find his passion. He advises underclassmen to challenge themselves and try new things to find their passions.

“I would say just to find the places that make you happy and get to know people there,” said Barnes. “Go for leadership positions you don’t think you could get and audition for shows that you don’t think you could get into. Just talk to people, because I didn’t do that when I first came to high school. [When] I started talking to people I found [friends].”
