Softball is entering a new chapter under the leadership of its newly appointed coach, Ricky Almeida. Almeida works as a counselor at West Sylvan in addition to coaching and is excited for the future of the team.
Almeida brings over 10 years of coaching experience across a range of sports, including softball, football, baseball and basketball.
Driven by a passion for sports and mentoring, he pursued a career in education in part to stay connected to coaching.
“I saw that there was an opening at Lincoln. I figured that with my connection with the community … it could be a really good fit and then I could help the program grow. I took the leap and applied for it,” Almeida said.
Almeida is focused on creating a positive environment where athletes can grow and enjoy the game. This season, he’s excited to see the team’s energy and commitment already taking shape during pre-season practices.
“I’m excited to see the athletes enjoying the sport they love while also helping them grow. I haven’t even thought about anything as far as wins or losses go,” Almeida said. “What I’m seeing is a group of girls that are really pumped up and they have the drive.”
Almeida said he is dedicated to building a positive and supportive environment on and off the field.
“Before anything else, we have to have a good culture. And I think that we are already heading that way,” Almeida said. “There’s just a ton to look forward to. It’s a good group and I think we’re going to have fun this year.”
Senior Ella Spangler, pitcher and first base player, is looking forward to the upcoming season.
“I am super excited we have a new coach this year and he has done a great job with organizing pre-season practices, team bonding and recruiting new players, which I think our program needed,” said Spangler. “I am looking forward to some new leadership within the team, new drills and a different approach.”
Junior Lucy Goldring, who has played first base, second base, and both right and left field, is optimistic about the team’s future under the new coach.
“My favorite part of the Lincoln program is probably the people that I have met through playing softball. I have made lots of good friends and met great people that if it weren’t for softball, I wouldn’t know. The community we have is super supportive of each other,” Goldring said. “I think that with a new coach, our team will really benefit and I think that we will greatly improve the way that we play on the field and how we feel after.”
With new leadership from head coach Almeida, the softball team is ready for an exciting new chapter, focused on building a strong, positive culture. If you’re looking for a great team to join, now is the perfect time to get involved by sending an email to [email protected].
