Racy subjects such as sex and murder are brought to life in “Chicago,” the spring musical. The 1920’s vaudeville-style show deals with murderess Roxie Hart (Caroline Fenty, sophomore, and Hailey Tollner, junior) killing her out-of-wedlock lover Fred Casely (Jake Mackie, senior).

“I didn’t have a problem getting administration to accept it.,” said director Jim Peerenboom. “I think they realize that theater isn’t always ‘safe,’ and that it reflects what happens in the outside world.”

Although the administration may be accepting the production,  some students are worried about others’ reactions. “With a controversial show like Chicago, it’s impossible to avoid some negative reactions, but I’m hoping that parents will accept it when they see that it is well-done,” said cast member Abigail Meskimen, junior.

The play will run March 6-8 and March 13-15 in the auditorium.
