Every individual who’s involved in theatre On or Off-Broadway plays a role in bringing a show to life. Keeli Guilfoyle, a member of the Lincoln Drama tech crew, is one of these people, managing everything behind the scenes. Even though she’s only been involved in Lincoln Drama for two years, she’s put all of her heart and soul into everything she’s worked on

While Guilfoyle is a techie at heart and loves working backstage, her school life is very important to her as well. Overall, her life at Lincoln has been pretty good so far even though some stressful moments have occurred. When she’s overwhelmed with assignments she focuses more on the positive aspects of school.

Theatre is something very positive for Guilfoyle, which is why she chooses to be involved with it as much as possible in a variety of different ways.

“I’ve teched for New Works, and was in charge of the costumes and props for that,” said Guilfoyle. As a performer, she’s been involved in Popcycles and theatre electives at school.

Guilfoyle is motivated by the passion and support of the school drama community to stay involved in theatre. She also likes the fact that she can talk about one of her favorite pastimes with people who have the same interest as her.

“My favorite part of being involved in Lincoln Drama has been getting to know new people who eventually become great friends,” Guilfoyle said.

But even with all the friends Guilfoyle has made, there are still difficult things she has to do, like help with costumes, quick changes and transitions backstage. Her job can be very taxing.

“On a scale of 1-10, the Drama Program difficulty would probably be around a 7 because of how much work it demands from you and how time consuming it is. But, even though it’s really challenging , I would rate it an 11/10 in terms of how fun it is!”

Guilfoyle puts in hours of work in shows that at times are very demanding, but she knows that it’s worth it because it will have such an large impact on the audience that sees it.

“I think the Lincoln Drama Program has been pretty impactful to students because they can find something that they enjoy, and has an overall positive impact on strangers,” said Guilfoyle.

Guilfoyle knows that many people want to get involved in Lincoln Drama but don’t know where to start. That’s why she suggests auditioning for shows as possible even when you have personal doubts. She also says you should get involved in Lincoln Drama as much as you can and take classes with the theatre program.

Despite the positivity within Lincoln Drama, Guilfoyle says there are still problems that need to be solved there in order to improve the community .

“The Lincoln Drama Program can be very toxic because of people’s actions and behavior, so that is definitely the thing they need to work on the most,” states Guilfoyle.

Guilfoyle believes it has an overall positive impact and can lift your spirits in hard times. She’s had many funny moments with other techies which she still laughs at to this day.

“The funniest moment I’ve ever witnessed was when me and the costume/props crew tried to cram all the costume racks into the closet,” Guilfoyle said, laughing. “It wouldn’t open so we had to get Mr. Perenboom to help us open it the next day. We laughed so hard!”
