Kate Peters, a freshman, races at Bob Firman Invitational in Eagle, ID in September. Peters set the school record this month over 5,000m and hopes to continue her momentum into the cross country postseason.

Congratulations to freshman Kate Peters of the girls’ varsity cross country team for winning Lincoln’s October Athlete of the Month poll. Peters ran 16:58 for 5,000 meters at the Nike Hole in the Wall Invite, and she broke the course record by 18 seconds with the tenth fastest time in the country. Out of the four races that she ran in October, she only placed second in one- to the defending Oregon State champion (a senior). She is hoping to lead the girls’ cross country team, which was ranked No. 12 in the nation by Dyestat.com this month, to a state championship. Be sure to check the Cardinal Times’ social media every month to vote for the AOTM.
