PPS’ choice for a new superintendent has turned down the job, several months after the School Board announced his name in a celebratory statement, and following a trip to Atlanta by several Board members to observe him in his previous position.

Dr. Donyall Dickey, currently Chief of Schools for Atlanta Public Schools, declined the offer today, according to a statement released by PPS.

Interim superintendent Bob McKean will stay in his position, though his contract expires in June.

“After a thorough and comprehensive process we came to a mutual understanding that our expectations for the job were not in complete alignment,” McKean said of Dickey’s decision in the statement.

He said PPS is still committed to “hiring a superintendent who will help lead our district in our next phase because of what we have to offer – a vibrant, caring city with a passion for public education.”
