Girls win PIL, but can’t hold on for the long run

The varsity girls’ soccer team plays Grant on Oct. 15. The team won the PIL, but fell in the second round of the playoffs.

The varsity girls soccer team ended the regular season with a PIL record of 6-1-0 and an overall record of 8-5-2 (wins, loses, ties). The team ended the season with an overall OSAA rank of 19, making it to the playoffs, winning their first game against West Albany, then losing in the second round to Sheldon.

Head coach Miguel Guante says, “Overall, I’m very happy with how the team performed and came together throughout the season. We were disappointed to have lost in the second round of playoffs, but we were at our best in both rounds, and showed tremendous improvement throughout the season which was great to be a part of.”

As for plans for next year, Guante says it is up to the players to “continue to improve between now and July, and come back prepared for next season. Expectations will be higher, and there will be a lot of competition for roster spots and playing time, forcing everyone to push themselves to the next level.”
