Homecoming takes on Halloween theme

The annual homecoming dance, sponsored by the Senior Class, will be Oct. 24, 8-11 p.m. in the gym. The event directly follows the football game with Jefferson at 6 p.m. on Mike Walsh Field. Although the dance has previously been held in the Tiffany Center on Southwest 14th and Morrison, it was moved to the gym due to a lack of funds. “Halloween” will be the theme.

The dance has sparked some controversy among students. “Spy” was the original theme, but that was changed. “I’m not really happy with the Halloween theme, but I’ll definitely be attending the game and the dance,” said Bella Mckee, freshman. She said she prefers the new theme, however, because it is easier to dress for.

Another issue that has caused disagreement is the rule that prohibits outside guests. “I don’t really like the fact that only Lincoln students can come, and I really wish that you could bring people from other schools,” said Kattie Abrams, freshman. The rule was instituted last year. High heels are prohibited at the dance to protect the gym floor. Admission is $15, which includes game and dance tickets.

Homecoming is “not generally a huge tradition at Lincoln,” said cabinet member Kate LeBlanc, although it still holds a strong turnout, with over 700 attendees last year. To manage that volume of students, the Senior Class is currently looking for help from parents and community members. Interested volunteers are requested to chaperone both at the dance and at at the preceding football game.
