‘Annabelle’: Frightfully awful

The creators who brought you “The Conjuring” have released an intense prequel that will make you jump out of your skin…because of how horrendous it is.

With an all-star cast, you’d expect more than jump scares and squeaky doors. The movie takes place in the ‘70s, around the time of the Charles Manson Cult. The main characters, Mia (Annabelle Wallace) and John (Ward Horton) set out to live in a new home together- the beginning of their chapter as a family.

Mia is in the late days of her pregnancy and is told to remain in bed due to intruders in her home stabbing her in the side. Throughout the movie you follow the family and their journey with the demon residing in one of Mia’s beloved dolls. It taunts her in ways that you would expect to see in any paranormal movie these days.

The special effects – apparitions, electronics switching on and off, and the predictable slamming door scene – are nothing to scream about. And despite some good acting, the movie is nothing special, unless you are interested in something that has been done numerous times before.
