A desire to pursue music in college leads senior Penn Armstrong to seek funding so he purchase a tuba.

Senior Penn Armstrong has a passion for music that fuels his desire to play the tuba in college. But he cannot afford one because tubas can cost anywhere from $8,000-$18,000.  So through the website Go Fund Me, he is asking people for donations to achieve his goal of $8,000. As of April 3, 44 people have donated, and he is at a total of $2,115 “My life will always be built around music,” Armstrong said. “Music has given me a desire to live and to succeed, even in the most difficult times.”

Armstrong has played the euphonium, tuba, bass trombone, and trombone in various programs, such as the the Portland Youth Conservatory Orchestra, The American Music Program Pacific Crest Jazz Orchestra, Oregon All State Symphonic Band, Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corp, Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Concert Band and Marching Band. He also sings in the Cardinal Choir. “I want to major in music to continue pursuing perfection in what I love,” Penn said.
