The Black Keys Newest release, “Turning Blue,” is certainly a change of pace from their previous albums. Its mellower sound and garage band feel differs drastically from the bluesy soulful sound of “El Camino.”

That’s not to say that this album doesn’t have merit. The lyrics are smart and there are heavy instrumentals featured throughout the album. Songs such as “Weight of Love” serve to set the tone of the melancholy album.

Not until the very last track is there a significant change of pace. “Gotta Get Away” allows the album to finish strong with great instrumentals and an upbeat feel. Though this album represents a stylistic change for The Black Keys, it showcases their musical and lyrical talents.
