Song of the Week: “Heartbreaker” by Led Zeppelin
Take a trip back to the 1970’s. The days of shag carpets, rock and roll, and muscle cars.
Several world famous rock bands emerged in this era (Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, and many more) but ever since Led Zeppelin’s first studio album was released in 1969, they became known as a dominate, and undoubtedly profound rock band of the 1970’s.
This record, off of their second studio album “Led Zeppelin II”, is a great example of typical Led Zeppelin music. It’s got a harder sound, the drums are more pronounced, the guitar is more distorted. And in contrast to most bands of 1970’s, Zeppelin wasn’t soft rock, they were hard rock…and you can feel it. The faster tempo, the tougher sound, the high pitch vocals of Robert Plant and the insane guitar solos of Jimmy Page is what makes them stand out.
This harder style was pioneering for the time and is the reason why they are regarded as being one of the first metal bands/hard rock bands of all time. Even more impressive, “Stairway to Heaven”, one of Led Zeppelin’s most famous songs, is considered the best rock song ever according to Rolling Stones Magazine.
So, now that you have a little knowledge about these rock legends, go and listen to Led Zeppelin and if you like it, explore more of their work on iTunes or Amazon.
