Snowboarding Team Takes first at Season Opener
The snowboard teams kicked off the season with two wins on Feb. 2. This was the first competition in each of the two slopestyle categories. It took place at their original competition, previously scheduled for Jan. 29, was cancelled due to lack of snow.
Coach Electra Bellizzi, was particularly excited after the victories. “I’m glad that most of our team members were able to compete,” she said. “It’s good to see that even beginner riders are getting used to, and enjoying, the sport. We’re a team, and that’s what we demonstrated Saturday.”
Leaders were senior Cassidy Smith for the girls, and sophomore Michael Angyus for the boys. Other boys’ category leaders include James Mitchell, Sam Mercer, and Dashiell Shulman. Girls’ category leaders include Tatyana Okatch and Emma Parker. Angyus was particularly excited after the competition. “I’m already pumped for the rest of the season,” he said. “Our team competed well, and I feel comfortable that we can be really dominant throughout the rest of the season.”
Next slopestyle competition will be at Mt. Hood Meadows on Sunday, Feb. 9.
