Mixtape Review: Chance the Rapper’s Legendary Acid Rap

Meet Chancelor Bennet, also known as Chance the Rapper. He is a 20-year-old Chicago native with witty rhymes, retro beats, and a unique flow. Chance has become a familiar face in hip-hop this past year, but his career as a rapper really only began after he released a mix-tape entitled “Acid Rap” in the summer of 2013. Ever since, he has been climbing high in the hip hop scene

Some say it’s his beats or lyrics, but truly it is his style of rapping that makes him so unique. One minute his flow (rapping style) is calming, then at other times it can be aggressive and fast-paced. In songs such as “Cocoa Butter Kisses”  Chance uses slower and calmer flow, which is more common in the mix-tape, but in the song “Juice,”  he shows off his ability to rap back and forth from fast to slow.

With songs such as “Acid Rain,” “Juice,” and “Favorite Song,” it’s easy to fall into his relaxing and melodic rapping and then quickly transition into his upbeat sub-heavy tracks. In addition, the mixtape has unique samples (Chance yelling and making bizarre noises), diverse beats, and great featured artists such as Action Bronson and Childish Gambino. Whether or not you know or like these featured artists, I would strongly suggest downloading this mixtape because you will undoubtedly find one song you enjoy.
