Hardesty no longer supports Mayor Wheeler’s reelection campaign, the Oregonian reports
September 30, 2020
Portland Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty announced today via The Oregonian that she continues to endorse Commissioner Chloe Eudaly for Portland City Council, but no longer endorses Ted Wheeler and will not support anyone in the Portland mayoral race.
She endorsed Wheeler in the May 19 mayoral primary, but since then, has commented that Wheeler (also Portland’s Police Commissioner) “failed miserably” in his response to the nightly protests and police accountability.
The Oregonian posted the article by Everton Bailey Jr. with Hardesty’s comments Wednesday evening. With just over a month until the Nov. 3 election, Hardesty said that she “cannot in good conscience support [Wheeler]” after his “non-response” to police violence and brutality.
Hardesty is the only member of the Portland City Council whose seat is not contested this year.
