Trump should fund Planned Parenthood

In a 1999 NBC interview Donald Trump explained how “very pro-choice” he was.

As president he’s joining anti-abortion protests, supporting the marchers by telling them that “he’s with them all the way” and showing his support in his actions, like limiting funding to Planned Parenthood, an organization which provides many other health services in addition to providing abortion services.

These actions should not be taken lightly.

Since Roe v. Wade in 1973, women in the United States have had the right to choose abortion, however, as the Associated Press noted in a recent article, “under longstanding law and regulations, taxpayer money cannot be used to pay for abortions. Planned Parenthood, a major provider of both kinds of services, can receive federal family-planning grants while separately providing abortions.”

According to Teen Vogue “more than 650 Planned Parenthood health centers provide care to 2.5 million people.”

If organizations like Planned Parenthood disappeared, there would be fewer cancer screenings, less education about sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy prevention and less access to birth control.

Our president has set our country on a slippery slope. When we don’t take a stand against these recent presidential actions to limit funding to Planned Parenthood, the youth and women of America will be damaged. If women’s rights to make choices about their own bodies are disregarded, there’s something wrong with our society.
