Day of Silence brings awareness to LGBTQ+ issues
Many students participated in the Day of Silence April 21 to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues. The event is worldwide, and Lincoln’s rendition was organized by the Gender and Sexuality Alliance; teachers were asked to respect the students’ protest and not ask them to speak in class.
“Day of Silence is a day dedicated to bringing awareness to LGBT+ bullying, and staying silent shows the silence bullying creates,” said junior Leah Burian, president of GSA. Burian said this year’s event was successful, with plenty of participants and support.
Burian and senior Nicole Neupert provided students with tape to cover their mouths, signifying their participation in the protest.
