Teacher organizes trip to Mediterranean

Students have the opportunity to go on a two-week trip to Europe in this summer.

Steve Lancaster, Modern World History teacher, will be conducting a guided tour through Greece, Turkey, and Italy starting July 5.

Travelers will take an overnight flight to Istanbul, Turkey and spend the next three days exploring such famous landmarks as the Blue Mosque. Most of the trip will be spent in Greece, covering ground from the Bergama Region all the way to the island of Santorini, with an extension to Delphi, Pompeii, and Rome. Students will depart for home from Rome on July 18.

Lancaster has chaperoned four similar educational tours in his teaching career, the last one being four years ago.

“We talk so much about being global citizens since we’re an international baccalaureate school,” he said, “but there is no way to replicate the experience other than going there.” Lancaster went on a trip like this when he was 17, and claimed it was simply life altering. “It personally changed my view of the world,” he said.

For additional details, students are also welcome to go to room 144 during any lunch period and talk to Lancaster.

“I think a trip around Europe is really cool because students get to travel and learn a ton about other countries with a teacher who knows a lot about the history of Europe,” Alexis Henrikson, freshman, said. “While the trip will be educational, it will also be fun for the students to be with their friends.”  A parent meeting will be held in January. Spots are limited.
